Goodbye Class of 2015

It’s April!! Time to bid farewell to another special batch on campus!!!

I write my very first Farewell to the Batch of 2013 – 15. The day brings back emotions filled with memories, some good and some otherwise. Each will be remembered with equal fervour. Much like students, the day is also very significant and painful for the members of faculty as well. It’s the end of another journey on campus. Each batch makes for an interesting chapter in the life of a faculty. Over the Two Years, the bond that develops, the camaraderie, academic learning, the joy of interacting with some brilliant students, hand holding and guiding others, the pride in students doing well in their academic careers are all etched on to the memory for a life time.

Personally for me, the Class of 2013-15 has many firsts (including this blog!). I owe my firsts to you and thank you for enriching my own journey in academia.

1.      https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gifThe addition of politics and presentations on aspects like Land Bill 2013 or the Food Act of 2013, etc to the sessions on Current Affairs in Semester One. Till previous year, the sessions focused mostly on macro-economic and business affairs.

2.   In Semester Two I took you guys through the practical application of Cost and Management Accounting techniques learned. Fondly remember you guys working out the cost statements of things like Chicken Biryani, a Wall Fan, a Wooden Table, a Plastic Bucket and Formal Cotton Shirt among others. Will always remember Fahim for explaining the detailed procedure followed in his dying unit to make a fabric or Raigil's emphasis on the cost in making a paneer dish in his family owned restaurant.

3.   Moving on to the Second Year, the finance batch continued with some of these presentations in Semester Three as part of Strategic Cost Management. Here, the presentations were more intense, deep dived into the details and critically analysed every process, every cost being incurred. Simultaneously in the same semester, I taught Marketing Finance for the first time. It was challenging as some marketing students were averse to numbers. Can never forget the blank looks on the faces of Danish and Irtiqa every time some number crunching was done. But I must admit, courtesy the batch, I also got to look at numbers from a different angle, definitely was a great learning experience.

4.    Moving on to the last and Fourth Semester, here I was entrusted with the responsibility of teaching Management Control Systems (MCS) to the batch. MCS being a university assessed course, becomes critical from your perspective. The exam is yet to happen and I wish you all best of luck for the same. Do well.

Courtesy so many firsts, I must admit that Class of 2015 will always have a special place for me. Not that the preceding batches doesn't have or the subsequent batches won’t have a special place, at least on these counts, Class of 2015 will rule the roast.

I wish each and every student of this batch all the very best in every sphere of your life. Feel free to get in touch whenever you want. Do keep coming back to the institute, the doors are always open for you.

I look forward to meeting the entire batch together again on 30th January 2016, on the day of your Convocation. Till then, the attention shifts to your juniors (Class of 2016) and the incoming batch of 2015-17.

Good luck. God bless all. Be healthy. Be safe. Most importantly, strive to become good human beings and proud citizens of this country and the rest shall follow.

Take Care.

Bye!!!

26/11 and the Ensuing Hypocrisy

This 26 th November marked the sixth anniversary of the ghastly terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Though not the first in the maximum city , these attacks were vastly different from the others in their sheer scale and audacity. The terrifying, bullet - spraying spree of the armed fanatics in the southern end of the city sent tremors to the city. The terrorists not only hijacked the iconic landmarks but managed to siege the entire city all at one time. It took the security forces including the NSG commandos (the elite force created for such hostilities in the country) more than 60 hours to save Mumbai from hell. The world froze with the tremor at the most brazen attack of terrorism post 9/11 in US (for some reason US is the benchmark for everything and now even terrorism). As per the official release, a total of 166 individuals lost their lives, more than 350 were injured and millions traumatized. Ask any Mumbaikar about the incident and the wounds are there to see. And most impor...

To Rajdhani in Rajdhani

The name Rajdhani (a passenger train service connecting the capitals of states with national capital) evokes a sense of pride and a journey of a life time for Indians including Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). As Indians we say “ Rajdhani mein ek baar toh safar karna zaroori hai”. If you haven’t experienced the journey, then you are really missing something. And I was one amongst the many who were bombarded with, you must experience Rajdhani. And this gave rise to my determination to have a firsthand experience of what Rajdhani is all about. Roger in New Delhi On 22 nd September 2014, International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) announced that Rafael Nadal has pulled out due to injury and Roger Federer will replace him at Micromax Indian Aces (one of the four franchises in the league). The Indian leg of the tournament scheduled for 6 th – 8 th December, will be played in New Delhi. Along with the opportunity to see Roger live in action (I am an ardent Roger Federer fan) it was als...
